Recently, I started to play Valorant again after almost 2 years of not playing it
However, I stumbled upon the VAN 79 issue while trying to play
I encountered this issue after installing WSL2 when trying to set up my new workstation
After quick googling, I found an article on the Riot website page https://support-valorant.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045619633-Error-Codes-in-VALORANT , but the code was not present on the page
Another quick search on Google, I found this Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantTechSupport/comments/123n2vh/wsl2_messes_with_vanguard_and_valorant_networking/
From that thread, I suspect that the WSL2 installation was disturbing the way Riot Vanguard works ( Riot Vanguard is the anti-cheat system), it might be blocking the connectivity from Vanguard to its server
I tried to uninstall the Vanguard, Restarting the PC, but it was no luck
Disabling WSL2 was not an option, since I used it for my work
I’m down with the last resort, cleaning up all of my Valorant installation, including the Riot launcher and the Riot Vanguard
However, I got an issue when trying to remove the Riot Vanguard from my workstation, since I’m not able to remove it by running the uninstall

After that, I just restarted the PC and started to reinstall the Valorant ( and yes, downloading from 0 again )
After the installation succeeded, I had to restart my PC again, and now I can play the game again
